  • The Challenge

After integrating an acquisition in 2021 that doubled the size of the business, and after moving all operations into one facility in 2022, the management team needed a “spark” to pull both teams together.  Additionally, increases in demand from customers meant the teams needed to find ways to collaborate and operate more efficiently.  This necessitated a thorough review of business processes and “how things were done”.

  • The Solution

The needs of Precision Profiles aligned with the overarching goal of NWIRC’s Lean Together program – to help companies create a culture of continuous improvement where everyone is working together as a team and moving in the same direction.  Specifically, Lean Together 1.0 is designed for companies to study and implement concepts from the book, 2 Second Lean, by Paul Akers – that heavily focuses on culture.  The program of nine (9) monthly sessions include classroom discussion, facility tours, and collaborative learning with peers – and helps connect employees with goals of the business so everyone is working together to make small improvements each day.

Client Success

Precision Profiles enrolled 4 participants in Lean Together 1.0, running August through May, and included members of management and team members from the shop floor.  The group took what they learned back to the company on a regular basis – implementing daily meetings, improving transparency by sharing operational and financial performance metrics, and helping other employees understand and see the 8 Wastes.

“The Lean Together program was the kickstart we were looking for”, said Matthew J. Lucco, President & CEO.  “We started our journey by providing a copy of the book, 2 Second Lean, to each employee.  This was followed with the implementation of the Daily Huddle, which included business updates, chapter reviews from 2 Second Lean, project discussions, What Bugs You, and upcoming events.  We are already seeing positive improvements to business operations and efficiencies, and look forward to future benefits from the program.”

Ultimately, leadership anticipates the impact of the program to generate $500K in increased sales, $4.5M in retained sales, cost savings of $250K, 23 jobs retained, and 3 jobs created.  They have plans to continue on with Lean Together 2.0 and also place new participants in Lean Together 1.0 next year.
