Getting the most out of your team often comes down to clarity of communications. Leadership guru John Maxwell notes, “Everyone talks. Everyone communicates. But few connect.” If you want to learn how to get the most out of your team, you must learn how to connect, improve your listening skills and provide accurate, timely and useful feedback. There’s good news. This is a learnable skill.
Communication is one of the most important foundational building blocks for managing a team. Add differences of backgrounds, point of reference, style, and differences in personalities, you have the perfect storm for full blown misunderstandings. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Connecting increases your influence in every situation and area of our lives. And the DISC self-behavioral assessment allows you to recognize where your own strengths and weaknesses are in communicating. Each letter in DISC focuses on different aspects and behaviors, and the written report provides suggestions on how to interact better to others who may have another primary style. It continues to be among the most influential personality assessments available and can be helpful for developing performance improvement strategies—both of yourself and for your team.
