The next WiM PA Chapter meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 27 from 10am to Noon at Franklin Industries, 600 Atlantic Ave., Franklin (Venango County), PA.

In business since 1901, Franklin Industries Co., Inc. is a rail rerolling mill with 140 employees located in Franklin, PA. The company recycles used railroad tracks manufacturing them into highway sign posts and agricultural fence posts. Rail steel is an exceptionally high quality steel due to the exacting chemical and physical specifications under which the original railroad tracks had to be produced. The rails are heated to temperatures nearing 2300 degrees. Once the bars are cooled to around 400 degrees and sheared to length, the posts are then finished. Posts can be punched with or without holes and painted with a protective coating of weather resistant baked enamel paint or galvanized by hot dipping. The company notes that 2017 was a record-shattering year with seven production records exceeded due to the dedication and focus of employee process improvements—some records had been in place over 20 years! Franklin Industries COO Don Smith notes, “We look forward to providing WiM with a tour and discussion about our facility and recent achievements!”

Lunch is included and will follow the tour at the award-winning Bella Cucina’s Restaurant.
