Manufacturers from across the country visited Capitol Hill yesterday, along with representatives from the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Centers. Their mission: to emphasize the importance of manufacturing and the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s MEP program to our regional economy. Mission Accomplished: Via individual meetings and public hearings, the message from manufacturers was clear and members of Congress and the Senate were impressed with the examples shared by manufacturers on how their businesses have been positively impacted with their MEP’s assistance.

“It was exciting to hear the increased focus and support for manufacturing,” said Susan Hileman, NWIRC Strategic Business Advisor. Hileman attended the Hill Day meetings along with NWIRC President, Bob Zaruta, and Ashleigh Walters, President of Onex, Inc located in Erie and Pittsburgh PA. Walters spoke at a meeting of the PA Delegation to share how Onex has benefited from the services and support of NWIRC, through Lean training and STEM Manufacturing Internship Program to name a few.

What’s Next?: The Senators and Congressman attending the meetings about manufacturing over the last couple days are looking forward to receiving more MEP stories that they can share with their colleagues! If you are a manufacturer who has experienced positive impact from the support of NWIRC, please drop us a line to share your story.
