Student-Run Manufacturing Enterprises
The student-run manufacturing enterprise is a proven career readiness model providing high school students with real world experience running all aspects of a manufacturing enterprise while making real parts for real companies within a high school or Career Technical Center.
Through this education model, students can learn and perform various jobs including marketing, sales, quoting, purchasing, design, manufacturing, inspection, quality control, shipping, accounting, and customer service. Products and parts produced by a student-run manufacturing enterprise add value to manufacturing operations, supply chains and their customers’ businesses. At the same time, students connect with local industry and build relationships that can lead to exciting and rewarding career opportunities in advanced manufacturing. Students participating in this program proudly build and promote their enterprise’s identity, brand, and team spirit while gaining the satisfaction of being part of something bigger and belonging to a network of schools with student-run manufacturing enterprises. NWIRC has assisted eight (8) school districts to date, in different counties of northwestern Pennsylvania, to launch their programs.
McDowell Manufacturing (McDowell High School, Erie PA)
A senior high school with 1000+ students in 11th and 12th grades. Their SRME started in 2019, operates as a club, and is a 90-minute block period that serves as a student internship.
Parkway Industrial (Bradford Area High School, Bradford PA)
A comprehensive high school with career and technical education (CTE) and 720+ students in grades 9-12. The SRME started in 2022 and operates as a club. The students meet as needed to collaborate on specific projects.
Dutch Manufacturing (St Mary’s Area High School, St Marys PA)
A comprehensive high school with career and technical education (CTE) and 630 students in grades 9-12. The SRME started in 2021, is an elective class, and operates as a club.
Lion Manufacturing (Clarion-Limestone High School, Strattanville PA)
A junior/senior high school with 350+ students in grades 7th – 12th. The SRME started in 2023 and operates with interdepartmental collaboration between business and shop classes. Students in both programs work together to operate their company.
Titusville Rockets Manufacturing (Titusville High School, Titusville PA)
A high school with over 500 students in grades 9-12 with a developing manufacturing program striving to add to the legacy of the valley that changed the world through manufacturing.
1st Class Precision Manufacturing (Warren County Career Center, Warren PA)
A career and technical education center with 4 sending high schools. The SRME started in 2022 and operates as a club. The students meet as needed to collaborate on specific projects.
Beaver Precision Works
A high school with 600 students offering both business and career & technical students hands-on experience in multiple trades, including a graphics shop, machine shop, welding shop, and woodworking shop.
