SMART-PA: Accelerating Technology Adoption for PA Manufacturers

Smart manufacturing refers to the integration of advanced technologies—such as robotics, automation, data analytics, digital twins, and IoT—into production and business processes. These technologies enable real-time decision-making, greater operational control, and improved flexibility and quality. For many manufacturers, the transition to smart systems can be challenging. SMART-PA aims to reduce those barriers – a program offering a suite of resources to help manufacturers modernize operations, improve efficiency, and reduce costs. The program was developed to address persistent issues facing manufacturers in the region, including low production rates due to workforce shortages, delays in accessing production data caused by manual or paper-based systems, high scrap rates from undetected out-of-spec processes, and excessive machine downtime. By supporting the adoption of smart technologies, SMART-PA helps manufacturers address these pain points directly.

Participating companies can access both online and on-site technology assessments, as well as free or discounted technical assistance for implementation projects. The program also offers mini-grants of up to $5,000 to offset costs associated with technology adoption.
