Congratulations to the students who have completed the NWIRC’s Supply Chain Management Certification Training by APICS International (American Production and Inventory Control Society). Participants completed 15 days of classes over nine months which consisted of 3 days in 5 different modules required for certification in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM). The program provides the ability to understand and evaluate production and inventory activities within a company’s global operations. In order to achieve certification, participants must pass 5 exams in the following areas:

  • Basics of Supply Chain Management
  • Master Planning of Resources
  • Detailed Scheduling and Planning
  • Execution and Control of Operations
  • Strategic Management of Resources

The recent completion of the NWIRC’s training program provides the background for taking the certification exams. Each student is scheduling exams at their own pace, but they are well on their way to CPIM. All of the students noted that a large takeaway from the course is the process improvement element and learning strategies that have been successful at other companies.

The program was presented by Jack Martis, an accomplished instructor/consultant in operations and supply chain management. In addition to his BA and MBA degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, Jack attained his CPIM certification in 1997 and CSCP certification in 2006. . He currently serves as the Chapter Vice President and Vice President of Education for the APICS Pittsburgh Chapter.
