U.S. Congressman Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson provided insight on manufacturing in our region at an industry luncheon in St Marys PA yesterday, November 24. The luncheon was hosted by Northwest Industrial Resource Center and St Marys Area Chamber of Commerce. Thompson shared his recipe for growing manufacturing which focuses on 4 ingredients:
- Workforce development
- Innovation technology
- Affordable energy
- Lean government
Thompson recognized NWIRC for their leadership in the area of technology transfer and their STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) apprentice program. “These things are our best defense against the risk of overseas competition,” he said. Participation in the panel discussion included Gerry Schneggenburger, NWIRC; Susie Snelick, North Central Workforce Investment Board; Eric Bridges, North Central PA Planning and Development Commission; and Jackie Lundy, Community Education Center of Elk and Cameron County. “It’s important for everyone to come to the table and work together to make it happen….like the collaboration of the organizations represented here today.”
