The West Central Contest of What’s So Cool About Manufacturing (WSCM) for schools in Mercer County has wrapped up… now that the virtual Awards Event has premiered on YouTube. Since the in-person awards event needed to be canceled due to COVID-19, the winners were announced during a video which premiered on YouTube on April 24th.

And the winners are….

Outstanding Creativity:                      Lakeview Middle School (Technical Precision)
Outstanding Cool:                              West Middlesex Jr/Sr High School (GW Becker)
Outstanding Marketing:                     Mercer Area Middle-High School (Sharon Tube)
Viewers’ Choice:                                Greenville Jr/Sr High School (Hodge Foundry)

Greenville Jr/Sr High School, as the Outstanding Overall Program winner, will represent the West Central Contest at the statewide competition which will occur as a virtual event in June.

NWIRC was again the coordinator for the program, along with numerous community partners and sponsors. WSCM is a student video contest with the goal to create awareness within the schools and the community about cool manufacturing careers through the eyes of 7th and 8th grade students. The team, guided by their Teacher Coach, conducted research, did filming at the company, and edited their video for final submission. Five schools in Mercer County were paired with a manufacturer partner. The videos are still available for viewing at (look for West Central contest).
