In his own words: Zach Smith, Chief Financial Officer, Acutec Precision Aerospace
What or who fueled your interest in manufacturing?
Family, two of my uncles work in the industry and from a young age was always curious how it all worked.
What is your current role in manufacturing?
My current role is Chief Financial Officer. My team and I are responsible for the overall financial health of the company. We perform analytics on all aspects of the company including job, work center, and overall company performance. In addition, we are responsible for all invoices, customer and vendor, including managing the payments to and from all of them.
Describe your path to get to where you are today.
My path started at the Crawford County Career and Technical Center in the tool & die class. An opportunity was posted by Acutec for an internship and I applied. At Acutec I worked in multiple jobs including saw, shipping, tool room, and running CNC equipment while I pursued my degree in forensic accounting. After graduation I moved into the accounting team as a staff accountant. I then was promoted to controller and then finally my current role.
What is your Superpower?
Curiosity. Always being curious how things work led me to excel in many aspects of my position. It also makes you think outside the box for creative solutions.
Why is your role important to others – like to customers or end users?
My role is important because we provide critical information to all departments to help make better decisions.
What do you think the future holds for your career or others you inspire?
My future holds fulfillment, I absolutely love my role and this industry offers so much for growth. The challenges we face daily are engaging and finding solutions keeps this interesting.
