cyber panel- final-01NWIRC thanks the distinguished panelists who participated in the recent Cybersecurity 101 for Manufacturers discussion. Each of them brought a specific expertise to help manufacturers protect, prevent, and respond to the growing threat of cybersecurity incidents. While they each covered different topics, the common theme throughout the morning was ‘awareness and education’ to understand the risks. Other key takeaways for manufacturer’s included 1) consideration for a third party provider to conduct your security risk assessment, 2) understanding that shop floor security has different concerns from office network security, 3) realizing your liability and responsibility to those affected if a breach occurs, and 4) preparing and practicing…just as you do with fire drills… for a potential incident.

The bottom line is that, to keep your company data safe, you may need several experts involved to help you prepare and respond. These are the experts that helped get that message across with today’s program:

  • John Persinger, Associate with MacDonald, Illig, Jones & Britton. He is a member of their Emerging Technologies Practice Group which helps clients identify, manage and mitigate the risks associated with new technologies, such as e-commerce stores, social media, and cloud computing.
  • Jay Markey, President of Green Seven Technologies. His firm provides IT managed services and consulting to small and medium-sized organizations throughout Western Pennsylvania. His prior experience includes serving as president of an international security corporation.
  • Scott McCausland, Project Manager/Solutions Architect with Process and Data Automation. In his role, he uses current trends in technology to facilitate needs for industrial automation. His prior experience includes software development and consulting on enterprise resource planning.
  • David Peck, CISSP, C|EH, EnCE, President of David J. Peck & Associates, LLC. He has over 25 years’ experience in cybersecurity, digital forensics and IT investigative services. David is a former Electronic Warfare Technician with the US Navy, a retired PA State Trooper and a former CIA officer. In addition to being a licensed private investigator in PA, He holds several leading certifications in the field of cybersecurity.
